Somewhere in the middle of doing black and white collage paintings I felt the urge to move on to something that wasn’t about using found imagery, a complete break from what I had been doing for ten years.

This almost Peanuts character came up as a kind of bewildered awkward boy, unsure of how to claim his macho status as Batman, Han Solo, a gun user or a morphed Currin.

The series didn’t last long but the feeling of freedom and “is this stupid?” risk I had making these I now see as the first attempt at what would become Pink Boy ten years later.
