Having just left a short sprint at a very corporate magazine company, extremely frustrated and feeling like I wanted to start over, I launched a self funded magazine/art book called Whatever.

Inspired by the EDM and remix culture of the late ’90s, the Whatever premise was to treat images like music, meaning they could be shown as is or remixed by other creatives, with the print piece being an ‘album’ and an exhibition a ‘concert’, zines ‘singles’, etc.

I created a series of digital collages for the issue and exhibited remixed versions at the launch party along with two solo exhibitions.

Sadly the Whatever concept proved a hard sell within the creative community and never made it past that first fun moment.

I couldn’t call myself an artist at that time, and I couldn’t see it then, but these collages were the first pieces that felt true to me and led directly into the paintings I made in secret for a decade in Williamsburg.
